Arsenal’s trio of World Cup winning stars – Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski – have been pictured in training back at the club.
The German stars can be seen taking a break after being put through their paces by manager, Arsene Wenger, as they look to catch-up to speed with the rest of the Arsenal squad after being given an extended break.
At the World Cup, they all became national heroes in Germany as they helped the country lift the trophy for the first time as a united nation.
Germany’s performance in Brazil was nothing short of sensational and they fully deserved to triumph in the international tournament, after proving they were the best side on the planet.
Wenger will be hoping that this momentum that the trio of key Arsenal stars have will be carried into the Premier League season, when it commences on Saturday.
Arsenal start their campaign against Crystal Palace and all three of their World Cup winners are likely to be in the squad for the game.
They will need to be focused fully on club football again now, too, as Palace proved last campaign that they are a tough side to beat with Tony Pulis in charge.
Wenger helped the trio by giving them an extended break, but it looks as if they are hard at work now and their summer holidays, where they were free to celebrate their triumph, are certainly over.
The Gunners go into the season as one of the leading contenders to win the Premier League title and it is widely thought that they have their strongest squad in years, but they will need their key players to step-up if they are to meet their high expectations.
