No bids received for £20 million Manchester United target, claims agent

The agent for Ajax star Daley Blind claims no bid has yet been received for his client, despite reports that Manchester United were close to sealing a £20 million deal.

Despite reports of an imminent £20 million move to Manchester United, the agent for Ajax defender Daley Blind claims no offer has yet been made for his client’s services.

The Netherlands international was a crucial part of Louis van Gaal’s World Cup squad in Brazil, starting every game during their run to the semi-finals, while being widely hailed as the best left-back of the tournament.

Rumoured to be linking up with his former national team boss at Old Trafford throughout the summer, a deal was reported to be close earlier this week but the 24-year-old’s agent, Rob Jansen, has since moved to curb those claims, telling that no concrete bid has been received at this point, despite obvious interest.

Nevertheless, with Ajax manager Frank de Boer stating on several occasions that his star performer could be set to leave the club, and Blind himself admitting interest in a move to United, a deal before the end of the transfer window seems probable.

The son of Ajax and Netherlands legend Danny Blind, the younger Blind played in a holding role for his club side last season, winning the Dutch Footballer of the Year award after helping them to their fourth-consecutive Eredivisie title.

With experience in van Gaal’s 3-5-2 and 3-4-1-2 systems, the left-back-cum-midfielder’s versatility would mean he could still be in the linuep alongside £27 million signing Luke Shaw, while filling in at the position in the meantime while the ex-Southampton prospect recovers from his recent hamstring injury.

The 19-times capped international was also understood to be a target for Barcelona earlier this summer but, with the recent additions of Valencia’s Jeremy Mathieu and Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen, it remains unclear whether the Catalan giants are still competing with United for his signature.
