From Software's new IP looks to contain many of the ingredients that make the Dark Souls series so loved.

From Software’s PS4 exclusive Bloodborne has been publicly playable for the first time at Gamescom in Germany this week.

The project, which is being guided by Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki, whilst marking a departure from the series, appears to retain much of the mercilessly unforgiving, visceral action..

In the video below you can see some  gameplay from Bloodborne with the familiar rolling move and a look at some of the weapons at your disposal. There’s also a look at  the game’s dark, gothic setting and some of the gloriously hardcore monsters you’ll be up against.

"Face your fears as you search for answers in the ancient city of Yharnam, now cursed with a strange endemic illness spreading through the streets like wildfire. Danger, death and madness lurk around every corner of this dark and horrific world, and you must discover its darkest secrets in order to survive." reads the video description.

Bloodborne is expected to launch in early 2015 for PS4.

If you’re a Dark Souls fan will you be trying out Bloodborne?
