Chelsea transfer news: £9m winger’s future, centre-back question and youngsters on Middlesbrough’s radar

All the morning news, views and transfer rumours from Stamford Bridge...

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has hinted that he could sell Victor Moses before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Nigeria international winger has been on the books of the Blues since 2012 when he joined the London club from Wigan Athletic for a reported transfer fee of £9 million.

The 23-year-old has failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge so far and played on loan for Liverpool last season.

Mourinho, who returned to Chelsea as manager last summer, has now revealed that he could sell Moses before the end of the month.

‘Everyone knows that we have one too many foreign players in the squad’, quotes the Portuguese as saying. ‘And Victor is not a foreign player. He plays in a position where we have a lot of cover.

‘But he is English. We will make that decision at the end of the month and Victor is part of that process, so maybe he stays, maybe he leaves’.

Mourinho has also ruled out signing a new centre-back this month, claiming that he has enough central defenders in his squad.

‘I have Cahill, Ivanovic, Terry and Zouma, we are fine for cover’, said the former Real Madrid coach.

Two players who could leave Chelsea this month are striker Patrick Bamford and midfielder George Saville, with Middlesbrough interested in signing the young duo on loan for the 2014-15 campaign.

‘I hope we will sign the two from Chelsea’, Sky Sports quotes the Championship outfit’s manager Aitor Karanka as saying.

‘The club are working on that, but we have got seven games in 22 days so I'm concentrating on the games’.

Star striker and club legend Didier Drogba, who returned to Chelsea earlier this summer, could recover from his ankle injury in time for the Blues’ opening Premier League game of the season against Burnley away from home on Monday.

‘I don’t want to say he is ready for Monday, but the quality of our medical department and his strong mentality means that I’m not saying it is impossible for him to recover from his ankle injury in time’, quotes Mourinho as saying.
