Liverpool are closing on the transfer of Alberto Moreno, after multiple sources claimed the Reds agreed a fee with Sevilla.
The left-back was left out of the La Liga side's starting line-up in the UEFA Super Cup clash with Real Madrid.
The Guardian report the fee will be an initial £12 million, and the deal is expected to be wrapped up later this week. Liverpool have confirmed a deal has been agreed in principle.
His withdrawal from the Super Cup was a surprise to Liverpool fans who had expected to see the Spaniard play, albeit a pleasant one, with former Red, Jamie Carragher among them.
He took to Twitter, to suggest that the signing leaves Liverpool only one player short of where they need to be ahead of the coming campaign.
Was looking forward to watching Moreno tonight in the super cup but deal done to Lfc. Another striker and surely that's it!!!— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) August 12, 2014
The big question is, who that striker may be. Earlier this week, Liverpool were linked with free agent addition Samuel Eto'o, released by Chelsea in June and still without a club.
At the other end of the scale, Liverpool were linked with making enquiries last week for expensive additions Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani.
A fortnight ago, a move broke down for Loic Remy, while Divock Origi has been signed, but loaned back to Ligue 1 side Lille.
