Premier League title challengers Liverpool gained a new admirer in Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp following Sunday’s friendly match at Anfield.
The hosts blew their German opponents away as Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho, Jordan Henderson and new signing Dejan Lovren found the net in a resounding 4-0 victory.
It was the perfect ending to an entertaining pre-season campaign ahead of this weekend’s opening Premier League fixture at home to Southampton.
Many questions have been asked about the Reds this summer in regards to their transfer activity and whether their influx of new players will help them go one better than second place this summer.
Whilst juggling a Champions League campaign is also likely to affect their Premier League title aspirations, Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp isn’t one to write the Merseysiders off and told reporters that they can be even stronger this season.
"It’s a great club and they did well last year. I saw it. I saw what they can do against us...it was the wrong time to play them. If you make the right decisions after you miss you can be stronger. Maybe Liverpool this year is the big team in the Premier League. They can be stronger for sure.” He said, quoted by The Mirror.
Liverpool enjoyed a memorable campaign last season, notching an incredible 101 goals and finishing just two points off Manchester City in the title race – the closest they have been to adding to their 18 league titles in more than 20 years.
Despite the loss of key striker Luis Suarez, expectations around the club are high and many supporters believe that this year represents boss Brendan Rodgers’ best opportunity at claiming his first major silverware of his managerial career to date.
