Swansea are close to agreeing a deal with Napoli for Argentina international Federico Fernandez and are hoping he will be available for the start of the season.
The Welsh club have reached an £8 million agreement with Napoli but are now in a race against time to complete the paperwork in time for Fernandez to play against Manchester United.
Fernandez should qualify because he was part of Argentina's World Cup squad, although he lost his place in the team for the latter stages of the competition.
Swansea are said to be confident that Fernandez will be given the green light, but he may not be available in time for the trip to Old Trafford on Saturday.
Napoli and Swansea's negotiations were helped by the fact that they had already done business this summer with Spanish striker Michu moving from the Liberty Stadium to the San Paolo.
Centre-back Fernandez signed for Napoli in December 2010 for just £2.2 million but he was unable to join the club until July 2011 as he didn't have an EU passport and the Partenopei had a full quota of non-EU players. He has made 36 appearances for the Italian side.
Is Federico Fernandez a good signing for Swansea?
