Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing former Chelsea and Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o.
According to ESPN, Reds manager Brendan Rodgers wants ‘a short-term move’ for the Cameroon international, who is currently a free agent after leaving the Blues at the end of last season.
Former Inter Milan and Real Mallorca star Eto’o, who has won the Champions League three times in his career, is also on the radar of Ajax, but Rodgers still wants the 33-year-old to replace the departed Luis Suarez.
The Merseyside outfit’s decision to look for a replacement for Suarez has been backed by Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic.
The Montenegro international believes that Liverpool need a striker to compete for the Premier League title this season.
‘This year is going to be more difficult than last year’, Goal.com quotes the 24-year-old as saying. ‘[Manchester] United will be much better, Arsenal are stronger and Chelsea with three or four players they have bought, will be better.
‘Liverpool are also good, they are strong now and, if buy some strikers, they will also be in the title race’.
One player who could leave Liverpool this summer for just £1.5 million is Kolo Toure after Turkish club Trabzonspor revealed that they are in talks with the Reds to sign the Ivory Coast international defender.
‘We have agreed terms with Kolo Toure and we will bring him to the club’, the Daily Mail quotes president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu as saying.
