Whilst Louis Van Gaal was taking charge of his first Manchester United match at Old Trafford on Tuesday, Sir Alex Ferguson was in Cardiff witnessing Cristiano Ronaldo score a brace to secure the Super Cup for Real Madrid.
Shortly after receiving his winners' medal Ronaldo saw his former boss on the way down the stairs and was clearly delighted to see Fergie who brought the attacker to Manchester United exactly eleven years ago to the day.
United fans hope that one day Ronaldo will return to wear the famous red jersey and with his relationship with Sir Alex clearly still very strong he could be convinced to return in the future. Ronaldo led Real Madrid to a 2-0 victory on a night where we saw Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez play in their first competitive game for the club.
On paper Madrid's team was a scary prospect and they will certainly be thoroughly entertaining to watch this season, with the talent on display.
