News broke early on Tuesday evening that Liverpool were finally close to signing their man, with that man being long-time target Alberto Moreno.
The Spanish left-back was due to play for Sevilla in their Super Cup tie against Real Madrid in Cardiff but was withdrawn from the side due to the deal with Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers has been looking to strengthen his defence for a long time and after the signing of Javier Manquillo, Moreno looks to be on his way for £12 million.
After the Super Cup final which finished 2-0 to Real Madrid, Moreno was on the pitch with his teammates and was overcome with emotion as the reality that he was leaving his hometown club sunk in. The 22-year-old was comforted by his teammates as he burst into tears at the thought this was his last moment with the club. Unfortunately for him he was not able to play for the club one last time, a club which clearly means so much to him.
It is refreshing to see such emotion in a footballer, as it is obvious he cares a lot about Sevilla but is moving on for the benefit of his career. In a world where there is a lot of money thrown about and many players are accused of lacking care or emotion, Moreno does not fall into that category.
Liverpool fans will be hoping he can now put some passionate, influential performances in for the club as they embark on the new season.
