During their Gamescom conference on Tuesday this week, Microsoft have dated the upcoming beta for Halo 5: Guardians.

The early test of the game will run from 29th December until 18th January and is set to feature 3 maps focused on 4v4 multiplayer.

Halo 5 devs, 343 Industries have hopes the beta will serve to aid a return to the game’s "legacy" of competitive multiplayer arena battles.

Players will be balanced with the same gear loadouts going into beta matches, which are to be hosted on Xbox Compute’s dedicated servers.
