Everton are reported to be interested in a surprise move to sign Samuel Eto'o, claim Sky Italia.
The former Inter Milan and Barcelona Champions League winner is a free agent after being released by Chelsea at the end of last season, and is still searching for a club.
He was on Monday night linked with a surprise switch to Liverpool by several newspapers, but their Merseyside rivals are said to be also weighing up the option.
SkyItalia journalist FabrizioRomano claims, via Twitter, that the Toffees have made an approach to the striker's representatives.
Everton are right to consider the option, Eto'o is a striker with a point to prove in the Premier League, having netted nine goals for Chelsea last season, he will want to show Chelsea they were wrong not to retain his services.
The option of beating Liverpool, a club they aim to finish above this coming season, to a proven goalscorer, is also added reason to show an interest.
Eto'o would add cover for £28 million man Romelu Lukaku, the player who he helped push to Everton on loan last season after his late switch to Chelsea.
