Outspoken QPR midfielder Joey Barton has been talking up a bright prospect who plays for rivals Fulham.
Fulham got their Championship start off to rocky start with a loss to Ipswich on opening day, but second half substitute Patrick Roberts certainly caught the eye.
Barton, as ever, took to Twitter to single out the teenager for praise:
Fulham's new kit is not bad. Like the look of this young kid Roberts that has come on. Seen him play for England u17's last year. #bigfuture— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) August 9, 2014
Roberts is still just 17, but is a player manager Felix Magath clearly rates very highly, to have in his first team set up, even handing him his Premier League debut at the end of last season.
The youngster came on for the final 16 minutes of the game, and managed to assist Tim Hoogland for the club's only goal in the 2-1 defeat at Portland Road.
Roberts also managed two shots on goal, and made two successful dribbles. The most any Fulham player made during the entire game, was four and three respectively.
The Championship promises to be a more forgiving place to develop for Roberts than the Premier League, and he certainly made his claim at the weekend for a regular starting spot.
