Arsenal's Lukas Podolski, Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil returned to training today after an extended period of absence.
Lukas Podolski says that he is happy to be back in Arsenal training, after having an extended summer break.
Podolski was part of the Germany side that won the World Cup and was therefore granted a longer period of absence than the rest of the Arsenal squad, but returned to training today and says that he can’t wait to get started.
He posted a picture on Instagram, with the caption: "Happy to be back at AFC and ready for the start!"
The mood around camp which he returns to is sure to be good – after the club secured their first trophy of the season, the Community Shield, with a 3-0 victory over Manchester City yesterday.
It is a result which has given Arsenal fans even more confidence ahead of the season where they will be hoping that the side can compete for major honours again.
Podolski and his two Germany compatriots, Per Metersacker and Mesut Ozil, who also returned to training today, will be crucial to this.
The trio all played during their nation’s winning World Cup campaign and will be full of confidence for the new club season when it starts on Saturday.
Arsenal take on Crystal Palace on the first-day of the season and Arsene Wenger will be hoping that his three German heroes all have their minds firmly back on Premier League matters when that game takes place.
