The protracted transfer of Eliaquim Mangala from FC Porto to Manchester City was finally confirmed today, Monday.
The player signed a five year contract following an agreement with the Portuguese powerhouse which is believed to have cost the Etihad Stadium club over £30 million.
Defense, though, was considered one of City's few flaws from last season as Manuel Pellegrini struggled to find an internal centre back who was consistent and reliable enough to partner skipper Vincent Kompany.
Finally, the Chilean coach may now have his man - and Manchester City have seemingly handed the defender the number 20 jersey, which was the second lowest number available after 17.
"Manchester City is a top club in Europe," the player said. "For me, it was an important step to leave Porto and join Manchester City in order to continue my progress. I want to win titles and I believe I can do this. I am ambitious and this is why I am here.
"I’m very happy to come to England because for me, the Premier League is the best league in the world. It is a very intense and very aggressive competition. There are plenty of goals, so it is also really nice to watch and I can’t wait to get started!"
