Liverpool have supposedly been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain attacker Ezequiel Lavezzi, who is reportedly on the verge of signing a new contract.

According to Le10Sport, the Argentina international is close to a new deal that will keep him at Parc des Princes beyond June 2016.

Premier League club Liverpool have been linked with a move for the 29-year-old, who has been at PSG since 2012 after joining the French giants from Napoli for a reported transfer fee of €30 million.

The former San Lorenzo star, who is one of the best in his position in Europe, has also been linked with a move back to Serie A. But according to the latest report, Lavezzi is now set to remain with the Ligue 1 champions.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are no closer to signing Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno from Sevilla than they were a few weeks ago. The Reds have been chasing the signature of the 22-year-old for a while, but the La Liga outfit’s president has said that no deal is in place at the moment.

‘There has been a negotiation [over Moreno] 10 days ago but no agreement’, The Mirror quotes Jose Castro as saying. ‘It depends on them. I have said the price is set by us. If they pay the amount in a timely manner, a deal will go through, and if not he will remain'.

Meanwhile, defender Martin Skrtel has hailed the arrival of fellow centre-back Dejan Lovren to Anfield from Southampton.

‘Dejan Lovren had great season with Southampton and I am really happy that he is with us’, Liverpool’s official website quotes him as saying. ‘We all need competition because that is what keeps you motivated. He will make us stronger, so I really welcome his arrival - and it will only make me work harder’.
