'He's been proved right' - City fans react to Arsenal's abuse of Nasri

Manchester City fans have defended Samir Nasri after the abuse directed at him by Arsenal supporters during yesterday's Community Shield final.

Manchester City fans have reacted in defence of Samir Nasri after he was subjected to some harsh abuse from Arsenal supporters at the Community Shield final.

Arsenal won the final 3-0, adding fuel to the Arsenal fan’s chanting directed at him, and leaving Nasri to be the butt of the jokes.

Nasri left Arsenal in 2011 to join City in a move that aggravated supporters of the Gunners and since then he has been widely booed whenever the two sides have met.

The criticism was more vociferous than ever before yesterday, though, after he labelled Arsenal fans as ‘stupid’ for their treatement towards him since his departure.

He said to the national press, before the game: "The abuse doesn't affect me on the pitch, I just think it's stupid,"

"I'm not an Arsenal fan, I am not from London. If we want to be honest, we are players who look at what is in the the best interests for us and our career.

"When Manchester City came, it was the best choice for me to come here. And today I have won trophies, I am really happy, I have everything and I have a better life."

Since joining City, Nasri has won two Premier League titles and a League Cup, with Arsenal’s FA Cup win last season their solitary championship in that time.

It is something which makes the Frenchman feel vindicated in his decision to leave the Emirates and a fact which most City fans used whilst defending their man.

Nasri has been used somewhat a rotational player throughout his career to date, but his form last season was the best he has shown in a City shirt.

The 27-year-old managed seven goals in the Premier League last campaign and dazzled fans with his tricky footwork and creativity whilst in possession.

He will be looking to use that as a platform to improve this season as City defend their Premier League title and City fans were keen not to allow Arsenal supporters to get the last laugh, despite their victory yesterday.

Here are some of the best tweets from City fans on the abuse Nasri was receiving.
