While the British press claim that Manchester United and Arsenal have been left 'infuriated' due to their failed pursuit of Mats Hummels as Borussia Dortmund recently appointed the coveted centre back as their club captain, the German media have instead continued to report heavily on the prospective transfer.
BILD report that the World Cup "awoke many desires" within Hummels.
Aged just 25, Hummels returned statistics in Brazil that were akin to an experienced elite-level veteran as he produced 11 interceptions, 16 tackles and 29 clearances en route to lifting the trophy with Germany.
He also enjoyed an 88% pass completion statistic from 289 total attempted.
BILD note that Hummels's World Cup performances was likely the catalyst for the mounting Premier League interest and that a "bidding war could now be kindled" with the likely starting point being €32 million (£25.52 million).
Arsenal require cover as they only have versatile teenager Calum Chambers to provide competition for primary partnership Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, after selling Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona for £15 million.
Manchester United, meanwhile, could be readying a £29.5 million offer for Hummels while also moving for Daley Blind for £16.72 million.
