Khedira has continued to be linked with a move to the Emirates throughout the summer, with reports in Spain even suggesting last month that a £25 million deal was all but done.
Wenger, however, suggested that the World Cup-winner’s agent was attempting to manufacture a move himself, before insisting that he was content with Jack Wilshere and the other options at his disposal.
Nicholas believes that the manager was right to make those comments and, though he wouldn’t be averse to more arrivals, doesn’t see Khedira as an ideal fit in the lineup.
‘I think there’s always a ploy but I genuinely look at Wenger’s comments and tend to take them at face value,’ he told Sky Sports News.
‘He looks at Jack Wilshere – will he really be in the starting lineup? Probably not at this moment in time, so it’s a massive season for him, and that shows he’s got bags of cover in midfield.
‘He’s even got Oxlade-Chamberlain, who also wants to play in the position, so there’s loads of depth.
‘Don’t get me wrong, if the right one came up to add to it then I think that would be good, but I think they need somebody who’s a bit pacier than Khedira. There are other players out there who are younger, stronger, and quicker who could help.
‘You’ve got to also remember that even Diaby has come back in now. I don’t know how many games he can last but he’s a stunning footballer so Arsenal are well covered in that department. It’s not a big problem for me.’
