Predicted XI for Tottenham's Premier League opener vs West Ham

With the preseason friendlies done and dusted, we predict Tottenham's starting eleven for their Premier League opener at Upton Park.

Mauricio Pochettino's first appearance at White Hart Lane this weekend saw his Tottenham team run out 2-1 winners over Schalke, with Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado scoring the goals.

The Argentine should now have in mind his starting eleven for the game with West Hame, and below, we speculate just who he might go with:

GK - Hugo Lloris - The Frenchman has finally taken the number one shirt at White Hart Lane to reflect the fact he is, of course, the club's top goalkeeper. Made one excellent save late on against Schalke.

DR - Kyle Walker - Though he has only had sparse preseason appearances, Walker should start against the Hammers if he is fit. If he doesn't make it, Naughton will come in, and hope to continue his improved defensive performances since Mauricio Pochettino took charge.

DC - Younes Kaboul - Kaboul has looked much more solid in his preseason games than he did last year, and with Dawson's injury is set to captain the team whoever is central defensive partner is.

DC - Jan Vertonghen - Like Walker, the Belgian is a doubt for the game with the Hammers, being one of the World Cup players yet to feature under Pochettino. He is however, the club's first choice central defender, though new signing Eric Dier proved against Schalke that he would be an able deputy.

DL - Danny Rose - It will be a close run thing between Rose and former Swansea man Ben Davies, but with the Welshman still settling in at the club, and Rose's performances improving after the club put faith in him and awarded a new contract, he'll start the season as Pochettino's first choice left back.

MC - Etienne Capoue - The former Toulouse midfielder featured regularly in the North American tour, and looked to be coming into some fitness and form before sitting out the game with Schalke because of a minor injury worry. If he's fit, the France international should start, but otherwise expect to see one of Nabil Bentaleb or Sandro.

MC - Lewis Holtby - Arguably the stand out player in the vast majority of the club's preseason games, Holtby's non stop running and chasing is perfect for Pochettino's pressing game. At the moment, likely to be one of the first names on the team sheet, and thoroughly deserved.

MC - Christian Eriksen - The Dane was voted the club's player of the season last season, featuring from a wide left position, and should now be given the chance to star in his preferred central position. Eriksen is going to have to be prepared to roll his sleeves up and track back to ensure the club's pressing tactics are effective, but it is in attacking positions that he will really make an impact.

AMR - Erik Lamela - Lamela didn't have the best of games at White Hart Lane, which is a bit of a disappointment considering how good he has been in other matches this summer. Pochettino has to, and surely will, persevere with the former Roma star though, who needs regular minutes to acclimatise to the Premier League and has to be allowed to have the odd difficult game without outcry over whether he is worth the £30 million fee.

AML - Andros Townsend - Another very close contest will be Lennon's battle with Townsend for the second winger position. Either could sneak the start, but for my money Townsend has marginally been the better player in preseason, impressive as he makes that comeback from the injury that ruled him out for England's World Cup.

ST - Emmanuel Adebayor - Last season's top scorer scored his second goal in two games against the German side, and though his link up play may be a little looser than Roberto Soldado's, will surely be given the nod to start at Upton Park.
