Tottenham Hotspur continued their pre-season preparations with a 2-1 victory over Schalke in a friendly match at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Former Manchester City and Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor put the hosts ahead on the hour mark, and Spain international Roberto Soldado doubled their advantage in the 66th minute.
Although former Tottenham and AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng pulled one back for the German side, they failed to restore parity.
The victory was the North London outfit’s fourth of the pre-season and maintained their unbeaten run.
Argentina international winger Erik Lamela featured in the first half against Schalke and was replaced at the break.
The 22-year-old, who joined Spurs from AS Roma for a reported transfer fee of £30 million last summer, had a mixed time on the pitch, but overall he has looked refreshed, reinvigorated and enthusiastic under new manager and compatriot Mauricio Pochettino in pre-season.
The former River Plate youngster is looking forward to the new campaign and posted the following picture on Instagram along with the message: ‘Also last preseason game victory. Now comes the important, COYS !!’.
Lamela is indeed very talented and has lots of potential – anyone who watched him during his time at Roma would know.
Last season injuries and failure to settle at Tottenham prevented him from showcasing his skills in the Premier League, but this campaign it promises to be vastly different.
