Liverpool have looked impressive in pre-season, and they continued to maintain their good run of form against Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.
Brendan Rodgers’s side eased past the German club 4-0 in their pre-season friendly encounter at Anfield.
England international Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring for the Premier League club after just 10 minutes, and three minutes later Dejan Lovren doubled the advantage on his home debut for Liverpool.
Philippe Coutinho made it 3-0 to the hosts four minutes into the second half, and Jordan Henderson wrapped up the scoring just past the hour mark.
Dortmund, who reached the Champions League final in 2013 and won the Bundesliga title in 2011 and 2012, were missing a number of first-team regulars, including attacking midfielder Marco Reus and defender Mats Hummels.
Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton was quick to jump on that fact and pointed out that it was all but a friendly, although the former Newcastle United and Manchester City player did admit that the Reds were ‘sharp’.
Liverpool very impressive post Suarez today against Dortmund. Friendlies mean little but they looked sharp. BVB couldn't live with the tempo— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) August 10, 2014
Number of Dortmund's top players missing but still impressive. #liverpool— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) August 10, 2014
Barton, who played on loan for French club Marseille in the 2012-13 season, also gave his take on the FA Community Shield clash between Arsenal and Manchester City, which the Gunners won 3-0.
