Liverpool-linked Edinson Cavani will be in Naples on Monday for Napoli v PSG friendly

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, who has been linked with moves to Liverpool and Chelsea this summer, will face his former club Napoli on Monday.

Edinson Cavani may have been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent days, but it is Naples he is going to be in on Monday.

That’s because the striker’s club Paris Saint-Germain are going to play a friendly match against his former team Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo in the Italian city.

The match is part of the Acqua Lete Cup and will see Cavani face the club he represented with aplomb for three years between 2010 and 2013.

It was at Napoli that the Uruguay international made himself one of the most well-known and best strikers in the world, before earning a €64 million move to PSG last summer.

Things did not go well for Cavani, who was easily better than his compatriot and former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez at the time.

Although the former Palermo star finished the 2013-14 campaign with 16 goals in 25 Ligue 1 starts and 25 in 43 matches in all competitions, he did not look his usual self and failed to reinvigorate himself at the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.

Cavani, who cut a frustrating figure in PSG’s opening Ligue 1 game of the season against Reims away from home on Friday (click here to read more), is reported to be on Liverpool’s radar, with the Reds’ manager Brendan Rodgers still looking to sign a replacement for Suarez, who left for Barcelona earlier this summer.

Those reports have yet to be verified, and in any case the ex-Danubio striker is now concerned with his return to his former club Napoli on Monday.

‘It’s wonderful, I can’t wait to get there and see the city where I had such wonderful moments, to be back in that stadium’, Cavani told Sky Sport Italia, according to Football Italia. ‘Will I shed a tear? You never know what emotions will emerge.

‘They can come on suddenly, when you least expect them. What I feel today is that for me it will be a great joy to be back in that city. Then we’ll see’.

Cavani’s PSG teammate Ezequiel Lavezzi will be part of the team against Napoli. The Argentina international winger played for the Naples outfit as well, and left them for the Ligue 1 champions in the summer of 2012.

Just like Cavani, Lavezzi’s future at PSG has been cast into doubt this summer with Liverpool said to be interested in the 29-year-old.

However, as things stand, both Cavani and Lavezzi are Paris Saint-Germain players.
