David Hockaday took charge of his first Championship game in charge of Leeds United today, and it was a poor performance and result.
The Den played host to the game in which a barely pressured Millwall side won 2-0, goals from Mark Beevers and a penalty for Shaun Williams doing the damage.
The summer has been one of turmoil at Elland Road. The new owner Mauricio Cellino finally got rid of Brian McDermott and replaced him with unknown coach David Hockaday - whose previous experience in the game was a generally underwhelming stint in charge of Forest Green Rovers.
They also lost star player and top scorer Ross McCormack to Fulham - although they were handsomely compensated to the tune of £11 million.
In response they have brought players in mainly from Italy, with little to no experience in the Football League, and based on the evidence of today not exactly carrying great quality especially in Souleymane Doukara - who looked off the pace up front.
But it was also remnants of the McDermott regime that disappointed. Luke Murphy was poor in midfield while Noel Hunt was again impotent for the club.
The worrying fact that emerges from this game is that Millwall, with all due respect, are not expected to be one of The Championship's top teams yet they beat them with relatively zero issue.
The Transfer Window is still open, but Leeds seem to be watching more deals collapse then they are getting completed at the moment - with Frederik Sorensen's loan deal from Juventus the latest to collapse.
Leeds need to improve quick, and the return of the suspended Tomasso Bianchi can also not come soon enough. However, based on this evidence, those tipping Leeds for relegation will be hoping for a return on their betting slips come May.
