Tottenham are reportedly on track to beat Serie A side Roma to the signature of American international DeAndre Yedlin.
Roma have been keeping an eye on Yedlin for some time and appeared to be edging towards an agreement with current club Seattle Sounders.
However, it is being reported that Tottenham have surpassed the Italian club and could be on the brink of completing a £2.75 million swoop.
The 21-year-old impressed at the World Cup during the USA's excellent campaign when he made three appearances.
Yedlin, who played against Tottenham in pre-season for Seattle, would complete the Major League Soccer season and then join Spurs in January 2015.
Tottenham could complete the deal within the next 24 hours and Roma are said to be already lining up alternative targets.
However, there could still be a complication to the transfer with former Tottenham and USA goalkeeper Kasey Keller warning Yedlin against the switch if he is only a back-up to Kyle Walker.
"They’re a team that has a lot of turnover in players. Spurs are a team that has the money, and they are always looking for a bargain, but it’s a tough place to go."
Roma's focus may already be somewhere else with reports that they are closing in on Greek defender Kostas Manolas.
