Salomon Kalou hails Chelsea striker Didier Drogba following the veteran’s decision to retire from international duty for the Ivory Coast.

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba announced his retirement from international football on Friday.

The 36-year-old enjoyed a successful career with the Ivory Coast, playing for his country for 12 years since making his debut in September 2002.

Drogba went on to play in three World Cup finals for the African giants and scored 65 goals in 104 appearances in total for his country.

During his career, the former Galatasaray striker made an impact on many players, and one of them is Salomon Kalou.

The 29-year-old forward, now at French club Lille, is also an Ivory Coast international and has played alongside Drogba since 2007 at national level.

The ex-Feyenoord player was Drogba’s teammate at Chelsea between 2006 and 2012, and left Stamford Bridge at the same time as the former Marseille star.

Kalou has now shown his appreciation for Drogba, posting the following picture on Instagram along with the message: ‘Thank u big bro. @didierdrogba #appreciation #africaproud’

At 36 Drogba is past his best and there is nothing more he can give to his country on the pitch. Having signed a one-year contract with his former club Chelsea last month, the Champions League winner will now concentrate on leading the Blues to trophy success this season.
