Midlands latest: Leicester want Argentine legend; Stoke star set for contract talks

We bring you the latest news from Leicester City, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.

1) Leicester City want Esteban Cambiasso

Leicester City are trying to sign Argentine legend Esteban Cambiasso in what would be one of the most spectacular swoops of the summer.

Cambiasso is available on a free transfer during this transfer window after his contract at Inter Milan expired, but it would still be a real signal of Leicester’s intentions of they were to land the high profile star.

Nigel Pearson has reportedly targeted him as he sees the 33-year-old as someone who can provide grit and experience to a Leicester side who will be fighting to avoid a swift return to the Championship this year.

2) Aly Cissokho close to Aston Villa move

Liverpool reject Aly Cissokho could be given a second chance in English football by Aston Villa, according to the media in Spain.

Cissokho didn’t look to have the required quality to play for the Reds when on loan at Anfield last season, but it appears that Villa see him as a player who could improve their squad.

The club have reportedly agreed a £2.4 million fee with his current club, Valencia, and the deal could go through in the near future.

3) Claudio Yacob to stay at West Brom.. unless big offer comes in

Alan Irvine says that Claudio Yacob will be a West Bromwich Albion player this season unless a big offer comes in for his services.

Yacob has been linked with a move away from the Hawthorns in recent times, with reports surfacing suggesting Baggies were very keen to offload the midfielder, but Irvine says that they are false.

"We're not looking to sell," he said. "We're trying to build the squad at this moment.

"But if someone comes in and makes an offer at a certain level, the club will decide whether to do business or not.

"We're not actively looking to sell Claudio, definitely not. But could it happen? Could someone come in for him? Possibly.

"We're not close to bringing anyone in and, likewise, I don't believe we are close to sending anyone out."

4) Begovic excited by future Stoke plans

Stoke City star, Asmir Begovic, says that he is excited by the club’s plans for the future and that he will look forward to contract talks.

Begovic, who has been linked with a move away from the Britannia for some time now, appears perfectly comfortable staying with the Potters and said that he would be open to talks about extending his current deal.

"We [himself and chairman, Peter Coates] haven't actually spoken yet [about a new deal], but that will probably happen in the next little while," he said.

"With the World Cup in the summer, there really wasn't time to sit down and focus on that kind of thing then.

"Now everyone's back and the season's about to get going, so we'll see what the future holds.

"I'm excited about the plans that the club and the manager have for the future.

5) Stuart Pearce comfortable working with Forest owners

Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce says that he is comfortable with working with the owners at the club.

Pearce’s relationship with Fawaz Al Hasawi appeared to have broken down after the two fell out over the departures of Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow to Newcastle, but the Forest boss insists that they have resolved their differences.

This is largely because of the fact that the money received for the young duo has been put back into funding new transfers – with Britt Assombalonga and Michail Antonio both arriving at the City Ground two days ago.

"I'm comfortable with the relationship with the owners now," Pearce said.

"They've moved heaven and earth to get me these two players.

"The first commodity you're looking at from both of them is goals. They give us pace. Last season we were a little bit one-paced, we never really threatened teams in behind."
