All the latest summer transfer news from League One...
Just one day after Chelsea midfielder Billy Clifford confirmed his departure from Stamford Bridge, the 21-year-old has begun the next chapter of his career with a move to League One side Walsall, where he has been on trial. After spending the second half of last season on loan in Belgium with Royal Antwerp, Clifford is back in English football, and Saddlers manager Dean Smith is already impressed with the youngster.
"This deal gives him the opportunity to further impress," said Smith. "He’s had a good upbringing in the game and already in the brief time that he has been with us, he’s displayed great technical ability. There are elements of his game that require work, but he is aware of that and is prepared to come here on a short-term deal and work hard in a bid to earn himself a longer-term contract at the club. I’ve been impressed by his attitude and his willingness to learn. He has fitted in well and I am delighted to add him to our squad."
Clifford isn't the only former Chelsea player on the move in League One today, as Bradford have pounced to sign Stevenage winger Filipe Morais on a short-term deal. The 28-year-old scored nine goals for relegated Stevenage last season, and has bounced back up to League One immediately, with the Bantams looking towards the Portuguese midfielder to replace Kyel Reid, who signed for Preston.
Meanwhile, former Liverpool reserve team sensation Adam Morgan has left Yeovil Town for a move to Scotland with St. Johnstone. The 20-year-old initially joined the Glovers on loan last season before permanent move, but after 13 games without a goal, Morgan is heading back up North as St. Johnstone prepare for the seemingly inevitable exit of striker Stevie May.
Finally, with just one day until the League One season starts, Oldham have squeezed in one more deal as former Wolverhampton Wanderers defender George Elokobi has joined the club on a one-year deal.
