Everton may have already landed striker Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, but the Belgian isn't the only Blues youngster being eyed by the Toffees. Winger Christian Atsu spent last season on loan at Vitesse, and having flashed ability at this summer's World Cup, Roberto Martinez has targeted him as a replacement for Barcelona's Gerard Deulofeu - and according to Greg O'Keefe of the Liverpool Echo, the deal has been agreed despite speculation that the move was set to collapse.

The speculation surrounding Everton's pursuit of a winger led to rumours of a move for Newcastle's Hatem Ben Arfa this morning, with the Frenchman out of favour under Magpies boss Alan Pardew. The move could of course still go through with Everton needing bodies ahead of their Europa League campaign, but the imminent arrival of Atsu will no doubt make it more unlikely.

Meanwhile, one winger leaving the club is youngster Matthew Kennedy, who has been loaned out to Scottish side Hibernian - who are now managed by former Everton coach Alan Stubbs.

In other news, the Toffees are still busy trying to tie down their current stars to new contracts - such as Ross Barkley and John Stones. Now, manager Roberto Martinez has reassured midfielder James McCarthy that he will be next after an impressive first season at Goodison Park.

"It will be natural. James's contract is already performance related so the longer that he plays he gets a bigger reward," said the Spaniard. "We will always be looking at rewarding players as they do well and James, clearly, is one of those. We always want to keep our young players important at the club and keep rewarding them. That will never change."
