The goalkeeping situations at Chelsea this summer and Liverpool last summer are certainly comparable. The experienced regular being challenged by the upstart young Belgian - it is a story replicated at Stamford Bridge this summer, and Petr Cech will be hoping to not follow the Pepe Reina rhetoric.
The Spanish stopper has been eased out of Anfield by Simon Mignolet and Thibaut Courtois threatens to do the same to the Czexh Republic international.
Reina has now signed for Bayern Munich, a move many Liverpool fans were not happy with. Indeed it is believed by many that Reina is in fact superior to Mignolet and his sale is a mistake.
To try and prove that many a Liverpool fan has taken to Twitter trying to prove the fact with a graphic suggesting Reina, on 134 clean sheets in 248 games was the better to Cech, with 134 in 326.
While indeed the ratio may still be better Cech has been very quick to point out to Liverpool fans that in fact, his Chelsea record is no longer as that popular graphic stands. It is an old pic, from last year, as Cech is now beyond 150 clean sheets - as he pointed out himself.
For those who tweeted and retweeted ... It is wrong .... I have already passed the 150 clean sheets mark... ;-) pic.twitter.com/bjnq8c3C6E— Petr Cech (@PetrCech) August 8, 2014
Time will tell if he adds to that next season, with the looming presence of Thibaut Coutois on his back.
Who is the better keeper? Cech or Reina?
