Chiriches only moved to White Hart Lane last summer, but it is thought that he could make a swift exit and the Serie A giants are keen to offer him an escape route.
They will make a bid of around £7 million for the Romanian defender, who struggled to make an impact in his debut campaign in the Premier League.
Chiriches made just 17 appearances for Spurs last season and his chances look even more limited this time around, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side expected to land Villarreal centre-back Mateo Muschaccio in the near future.
The 24-year-old may join at a time when Roma are in desperate need of a centre-back, too.
Reports last night surfaced that Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United side were keen on taking the Italian club’s prized asset, Benatia, as they look to sign a centre back ahead of the new campaign.
Benatia has been of interest to a host of top European clubs this season after his form last campaign caught the eye, but Roma have been resolute in their determination to keep hold of the defender.
However, United are thought to be the next in a long-line of club to try their luck at landing the 27-year-old centre-back and will offer £30 million for his services.
It is an expensive outlay, but Benatia would fill a position that he definitely needs players in.
Nemanja Vidic’s and Rio Ferdinand’s departures from Old Trafford have left United searching for a centre-back for much of the summer so far and it appears that Benatia could be their man.
Van Gaal’s first choice target was Thomas Vermaelen, but it is thought that Barcelona is the Belgian defender’s first choice and he is expected to complete a deal to move to the Nou Camp in the near future.
