Arsenal latest: Reus is 'Dortmund-born'; £15m fee for Vermaelen but no Smalling

All the latest news and gossip from The Emirates this evening.

Arsenal have agreed a fee in the region of £15 million for the sale of their centre-back Thomas Vermaelen to Spanish side Barcelona.

The La Liga outfit have overtaken Premier League rivals Manchester United in the running, as Arsenal demanded a player in exchange, which United were not keen on. The player was believed to be Chris Smalling - who Louis Van Gaal is reportedly a fan of.

Vermaelen will now fly to Barcelona to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

He would become the latest Arsenal player to head to the Nou Camp - following Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song to name a few.

Arsenal will face Besiktas in the play-off round of the UEFA Champions League qualifying round. The Turkish outfit will play the first game away from home in an intimidating atmosphere.

The tie is difficult, but Arsenal will be pleased they missed out on Athletic Bilbao - who face Napoli.

They will also face Demba Ba, formerly of Chelsea and an ex-Arsenal youngster Oguzhan Ozyakup in the tie.

Arsenal were announced as the favourites to sign Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus in German media yesterday - but Dortmund have made it clear he is not for sale.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc stated:

"[We will] definitely try to keep him long term, Marco is not only a hugely important player for us because of his athletic performance, but also in his role as a poster boy. He is Dortmund-born and a figurehead for this club."
