Arturo Vidal has been the name to dominate summer transfer headlines at Manchester United, but the Red Devils are no closer to sealing his signature.
Crucially, the midfielder has done little to stamp out the rumours of his exit, when confronted by fans and asked if he was staying earlier this month, he responded with a simple smile.
Varying message he has posted on twitter insisting he is content, have only a short-term vibe, and can be construed as leaving the door open and only looking to appease concerns fans.
Not everybody has taken his assurances at face value, with Italian sports writer, commentator and author Alvise Cagnazzo urging the Chilean to answer the uncertainty clearly once and for all.
He told Tuttojuve: "Tell us once and for all what he wants to do on his own future, without smiles of circumstance in front of the crowd of reporters in tow.
"An indomitable warrior should not become a lamb before a few undecided in the transfer market."
His words add hope from a United perspective that Vidal has been holding something back, and fits with claims from SkyItalia a day ago that the midfielder has told friends he wants a move.
Until Manchester United lodge a firm offer though, which by all reports they have not done so to date, Vidal is placed in an awkward position.
He is waiting to see what will happen, and is trying simply to keep everybody happy at present, without limiting his options.
