The last time there was this much excitement generated by an Arsenal prospect during pre-season, academy graduate Jack Wilshere had excelled at various youth levels for the Gunners and had taken his first sessions with the senior squad in his stride.
Now, fresh off a successful loan spell with Olympiacos and having enjoyed a starring role for a good Costa Rica team at the World Cup, 22-year-old forward Joel Campbell is lighting up the North London joint.
There has been much speculation surrounding the future of Campbell.
Initially, it seemed a forgone conclusion that manager Arsene Wenger would capitalise on the various strikers who were - or still are - seemingly available on the summer market but the Frenchman is yet to make a signing in that department, leading to speculation that his trio of Olivier Giroud, Yaya Sanogo and Campbell are sufficient for the coming season.
If Wenger had signed, say, Mario Mandzukic before the goal-scorer was recruited by Atletico Madrid, then he may have had to brace himself for more forceful bids for Campbell, with Crystal Palace apparently wanting the youngster on loan and AC Milan interested in the player on a permanent basis.
With a one word announcement on his official Twitter account, though, Joel explained where his future is…
Accompanied by a photograph of the Emirates Stadium, taken today - Thursday - during Members Day, Campbell posted one word: "home".
