PHOTO: 'Hard work' - Liverpool striker posts recovery photo

Fabio Borini was pictured doing rehab work as his future at Liverpool remains up in the air.

Nearly three weeks ago, Liverpool reportedly accepted a £14 million bid from Sunderland for Fabio Borini.

But the Italian striker remains a Red to this day. Black Cats boss Gus Poyet has confirmed that talks on personal terms continue with his former loan star, as Borini looks to shake off a knock.

If the 23-year-old had designs of impressing Brendan Rodgers on the USA tour and earning a place in the Liverpool squad, those plans were dashed on the rocks by his recent setback.

Borini suffered a shoulder injury in the Reds’ friendly encounter with Roma in late July, sending him to the treatment table and curtailing his chance to prove himself in pre-season.

The Italian took to Instagram on Tuesday to update supporters on his recovery progress, training at Melwood in view of a speedy return to action. He described the process as 'Hard work in the gym'.

It seems Borini remains bent on securing a Liverpool stay if possible - even as he’ll have precious little time to carve out a role for himself in Rodgers’ side once fit.

The Northern Irishman has indicated he needs more options up front ahead of the coming season. And whilst Sunderland continue to pursue Borini’s signature, he’ll be looking to show his current boss the man required to bolster Liverpool’s attack is already in the squad.
