Lazio have already added Stefan de Vrij to their squad this summer, but they are determined to continue their Dutch revolution with the signature of Ron Vlaar.
Coach Stefano Pioli is reportedly insisting that president Claudio Lotito deliver Vlaar despite Aston Villa’s reluctance to let the defensive rock leave.
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is set to hold talks with his captain and believes he will be staying but no guarantees have been made so far.
Vlaar’s contract expires in the summer of 2015 and Lazio have reportedly attempted to use that uncertainty as leverage, but they may have another ace up their sleeve.
The paper believes that Lazio are ready to give up their final two payments, giving them around £3 million credit on their bid for Vlaar.
Villa may still be keen to hold on to Vlaar, but the addition of around £3 million could take Lazio’s bid close to £8 million, which they may find hard to refuse given that they risk losing the 29-year-old for free next summer.
