On this day: Suarez slams Liverpool, Rooney 'begs' to leave as United drew in Sweden

Luis Suarez scores against England

On the 6th August 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 6th August 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 6th August 2013…

Furious Luis

Luis Suarez slammed Liverpool for breaking promises after the audacious attempt by Arsenal to sign the Uruguayan striker.

It came after Suarez's release clause was met as Arsenal bid £1 in excess of the £40 million necessary - something later admitted by owner John W Henry.

But that bid was rejected, causing Suarez to unleash this attack on the club hierarchy:

"I gave absolutely everything last season but it was not enough to give us a top-four finish - now all I want is for Liverpool to honour our agreement. I have the club's word and we have the written contract and we are happy to take this to the Premier League for them to decide ... I don't feel betrayed (by Liverpool) but the club promised me something a year ago just as I promised them that I would stay and try everything possible to get us into the Champions League. They gave me their word a year ago and now I want them to honour that."

Suarez brought his tumultuous term in English football to an end this summer by joining Barcelona.

Stockholm syndrome

Manchester United's disappointing pre-season came to an end with a dire 1-1 draw with Swedish outfit AIK in Stockholm.

Angelo Henriquez scored for United as David Moyes' poor start as United boss continued. Of course it continued into the new season, and Moyes was eventually sacked at the end of 2013-14.

Louis van Gaal is now in charge and he has led the side to a rampant pre-season campaign - leaving their stumblings under Moyes a distant memory.

Please sir, may I jog off to Chelsea

Meanwhile, one of their strikers was apparently 'begging' Moyes for a transfer. Wayne Rooney was the man in question - with Chelsea all set to sign the player for a whopping £40 million.

United were said to have rejected a deal the day before - leaving Rooney desperately pleading for an exit, according to reports.

It didn't happen, and he now looks set to become Manchester United captain - if Robin van Persie doesn't get there first.
