Arsenal trequartista has contacted his former team-mate at Real Madrid.
The thought of Arsenal's club-record purchase Mesut Ozil, a £42.4 million recruit from Real Madrid last summer, linking up with Karim Benzema once again, may have been an image that would have had Gunners fans salivating - particularly during a time when there was ambiguity over the player's future.
However, all of that was resolved this week as the France striker, who netted thrice and assisted twice from five World Cup games in 2014, has extended the terms of his contract with the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu outfit - he is now committed to the Champions League winners until 2019.
Ozil sent a Tweet to Benzema that said: "Five more years at Real Madrid! I hope facing you in the near future during a club competition, Bro!"
Last summer, Cristiano Ronaldo lamented the sale of Ozil to Arsenal as the German playmaker created numerous chances for the Portuguese attacker to latch onto and, ultimately, score from.
As it transpired, Ronaldo's goal return was hardly hampered as he broke the record for the most Champions League goals in a solitary season, scoring 17 from 11 outings on top of the 31 he struck from 30 appearances in La Liga.
Ronaldo, though, struck up a formidable partnership with Benzema and it is likely he would have again taken issue with the high-profile departure had Real ratified his transfer. Instead, Karim can continue his three-pronged BBC (Gareth Bale, Benzema and Cristiano) attack at the head of Carlo Ancelotti's formation.
