Former Arsenal and Manchester United target Matthias Ginter has revealed he always had his eyes on a Borussia Dortmund move.
Former Arsenal and Manchester United defender Matthias Ginter has revealed that he never hesitated in signing for Borussia Dortmund.
Ginter secured a move to BVB amid speculation that the Premier League sides linked with him could make big money bids, but he’s revealed that Dortmund were always close to his heart.
“It’s no secret that Borussia is close to my heart and always has been,” he’s quoted by German newspaper Die Welt.
The comments suggest that Arsenal and Manchester United never stood a realistic chance of doing a deal for Ginter before his move to BVB was confirmed.
Arsenal and United fans could realistically argue that Ginter would have a better chance of regular football at their clubs because of the presence of Mats Hummels and a fit again Nevan Subotic in the Dortmund squad, but Ginter has also revealed that the tough competition for places is something he’s planned for.
“I have chosen this next step deliberately. In Dortmund I can train every day to a high, high level and learn a lot. I wanted to be here from the beginning.”
Manchester United fans can get a little excited that one day Ginter’s progression and presence in the team could pave the way for Hummels to move away from the club, but for now it’s clear where his heart lies.
Dortmund look set to have one of the best packs of defenders in Europe this coming season.
