Liverpool not allowed to sign €20m star until next week - club president

Alberto Moreno Perez

Liverpool will not be permitted to sign Alberto Moreno until at least the end of next week at least.

Sevilla president Ramon Rodriguez has revealed Alberto Moreno's potential transfer to Liverpool will not be completed this week.

The Reds were widely reported to be on the verge of tying up a deal for the Europa League winning left-back, who has been linked with a switch all summer.

Javier Manquillo sealed his loan switch from Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, but Moreno is being tasked to stay and play in the European Super Cup which takes place next Tuesday.

Rodriguez told a press conference, reported by AS: "Alberto trained very well yesterday and like the rest of his teammates preparing the European final, it is true that there is a club that aims and there have been contacts, but now he is going to play the Super Cup final against Sevilla."

Moreno will edge a little closer to the Reds however, with the Super Cup being held at Cardiff City's Millenium Stadium for the first time.

It will provide Liverpool's recruiting team with an ideal chance to go to watch him at close hand, and even try to work on a deal, without a now infamous Ian Ayre jaunt to Spain, as has been suggested numerous times by the tabloids, with no success so far.

Liverpool may get their chance to sign him after the Super Cup is over, but Sevilla's president appears assured that for now, no deal can be completed until the match has been played.
