Everton latest: Former Barcelona winger linked as possible Atsu alternative

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from Goodison Park...

Everton sold Marouane Fellaini to Manchester United last summer, and replaced him with Irish midfielder James McCarthy. After Fellaini struggled and McCarthy starred, speculation had linked United with another swoop on the Toffees, with 23-year-old McCarthy in their sights, but the former Wigan maestro has played down any talk of an exit.

"The fans have been brilliant with me since day one. It wasn’t easy coming to a big club like this and trying to adapt but at least I knew the style of play. The size of the club though meant there was always going to be pressure, but I’ve settled in and everyone made me feel so welcome. I’m enjoying life here. I feel part of the family. It’s a real family club and it’s great to be involved in. It’s been a year since I came but it feels a lot longer than that."

Meanwhile, the addition of Bosnian World Cup star Muhamed Besic means that midfielder John Lundstram could struggle to make an impact, so the 20-year-old has joined Blackpool on a season-long loan deal after spells with Yeovil Town and Leyton Orient.

"It’s a good challenge to come into. It’s a Championship club, which is where I want to be playing, so I’m really excited to get started," said Lundstram.

In transfer news, the Toffees have reportedly set their sights on former Barcelona winger Nolito after he impressed with Celta Vigo. The ex-Benfica star could be seen as an alternative to Chelsea winger Christian Atsu, after a loan deal for the Ghanaian fell through.

Another player who probably won't be going to Goodison Park is Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca. The Colombian was prolific in his first season in La Liga, but after Everton signed Romelu Lukaku, it seems that Zenit St. Petersburg are leading the chase for his signature, with a £24m bid in the offing.

Finally, ex-Everton defender Shkrodan Mustafi looks set to leave Sampdoria for Valencia. The German international, who played at the World Cup this summer, spent three years at Goodison Park but left in 2012 having failed to break into the first team, but will now complete a £6.5m move to Spain in the coming days.
