Manchester United won an impressive five games out of five on their pre-season tour, with Juan Mata literally playing a central role.
Being reverted to his position through the middle has had immediate effect, unlike when David Moyes initially tried to play him out wide last season.
United fans are so impressed with his form, that they have overwhelmingly backed Mata to provide more assists this season than any of his teammates.
A poll on the official Premier League website, saw 62 per cent of United supporters select Mata as their most likely creative force, ahead of Wayne Rooney on 20 per cent and new signing Ander Herrera on 15 per cent.
Last season it was Wayne Rooney who led the way, the only United player to reach double figures in terms of assists in the Premier League.
Mata provided four, playing far less games than Rooney, also out of his preferred position for much of it.
No other United player made more than three assists in the league, which went a long way to emphasising their dismal seventh placed finish.
This season perhaps it will not matter who helps the most, simply that there is a bigger overall contribution from the entire team.
