Returning Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is being put through the paces by boss Jose Mourinho as he bids to return to full fitness before the Premier League’s opening weekend.
The Ivorian international uploaded a snapshot of himself training under the watchful eye of Mourinho on his official Instagram page, headlined with the title: “Double training today...working hard to improve with my new teammates”
The 36-year-old returned to West London on July 26, two years after leaving the club to sign a money-spinning contract at Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua.
On the opportunity to team up with former boss Mourinho again, Drogba couldn’t contain his delight as he told Chelsea’s official website:
"It was an easy decision. I couldn't turn down the opportunity to work with Jose again. Everyone knows the special relationship I have with this club and it has always felt like home to me. “
Drogba’s job this season will be to push Spanish international strikers Diego Costa and Fernando Torres for a first-team spot whilst acting as an influential figure and role model for the Blues’ younger stars.
His second debut for the club came at the weekend as he replaced striker Diego Costa during the Blues’ 3-0 friendly defeat at the hands of Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.
Despite the disappointing result, it was a special moment for the striker and the club’s supporters as it marked the official return of the Stamford Bridge outfit’s best ever player voted by the fans in 2012.
