Nicky Ajose, 22, has joined Leeds United on a three-year deal from Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee.
Leeds United made their second signing in as many days this afternoon by securing the services of Peterborough United striker Nicky Ajose on a three-year deal.
Ajose, who scored 13 goals for Posh last season, has split the opinion of both Leeds and Peterborough United fans as the deal for the striker was seemingly out of the blue. Nevertheless, the current Leeds United boss, Dave Hockaday, has given the striker his full backing and labelled him 'a super professional'.
Talking to Leeds' official club website, Hockaday said: ''Nicky was involved with a very good group of players in the Manchester United Academy and he was one of the high flyers in that group.
''He can play up front in a number of roles and he is very talented. He is a super professional and is an ideal addition to our squad.''
Peterborough United fans, however, don't seem as enthusiastic as Hockaday about the 22-year-old's ability. In fact, the majority seem pleased that he has been moved on despite his goalscoring input from last season.
Nicky Ajose's gone Leeds and all the best to him. Although his career highlight for Posh was getting injured within five minutes— Prior ⚽️ (@Poshboy97) August 5, 2014
Am i the only posh fan that rated ajose and thinks £150K is way short of his value if thats true?????— Mark PUFC Watson (@Markwatson___) August 5, 2014
Nicky Ajose has signed for Leeds for about £150k. Good work from Posh getting anything near that for him if true— Chaz Clare (@ChazClare) August 5, 2014
If the Ajose to Leeds rumours are actually real, I'll probably be rolling on the floor laughing for the next few days #pufc— Matt Evetts (@Matt_Evetts) August 5, 2014
Nevertheless, the young striker, who was considered a bright prospect for the future at Manchester United, will be hoping to prove to Leeds fans that he is capable of filling the void left by top goalscorer Ross McCormack despite his poor goalscoring record in the past.
As he is still a young player, it is important that the fans give him a chance at Leeds United and, if he does get that chance, he may go on to prove the doubters wrong.
