Report: Milan give up on Campbell, turn to Pandev

Emirates Inside

Italian press reports suggest that AC Milan have admitted defeat in their attempts to lure Arsenal striker Joel Campbell and found a new target.

AC Milan's pursuit of Arsenal marksman Joel Campbell appears to have been aborted and the Rossoneri may move on to Goran Pandev.

At the start of the summer Milan seemed almost certain to sell Mario Balotelli and try and find a replacement who might have a happier time at San Siro.

Balotelli was reportedly on the brink of moving to Arsenal for £30 million before a poor World Cup campaign put the Gunners off.

One possible switch would have included Joel Campbell moving in the other direction after his performances for Costa Rica at the World Cup impressed Milan directors.

However, Campbell has been brought back to the Arsenal fold and scored his first goal for Arsene Wenger's team in a friendly against Benfica.

And, according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Milan are ready to turn their attentions elsewhere after Wenger insisted Campbell would be staying put.

The Italian side are said to be considering moving for Napoli man Pandev, who could be part of an attacking trident at San Siro.

The 31-year-old only has one year left on his contract after joining Napoli from Inter in 2012 and his importance at the Stadio San Paolo has steadily decreased.

Tuttosport suggests that the main problem for Napoli could be Pandev's salary, which is beyond the Diavolo's current capabilities.
