The 22-year-old front-man moved from Peterborough United to Elland Road today.
Leeds United new-boy Nicky Ajose was all smiles as he posed with his new club’s kit for the first time.
The striker completed a move from Peterborough United today for an undisclosed fee and signed a three-year-contract at Elland Road.
It is a move which ends his ultimately disappointing time at Posh, where he has failed to develop at all as a player.
Signed as a promising 19-year-old from Manchester United, on the back of a promising loan season with Bury in League Two, Ajose was supposed to be the attacking talent who kicked Posh on to the next level, but he never showed anywhere near enough quality.
As a result, he spent most of his time out on loan at London Road at a host of Football League sides and he will relieved to have found a new home a club who value him.
That fact that it is as club as big as Leeds United comes as a major shock. The striker, now 22, has looked off the pace in League One since returning to Posh at the back-end of last campaign and his step-up will be a major test of his credentials.
Leeds head-coach, David Hockaday, was delighted to have pulled off the coup, though. He said: “Nicky was involved with a very good group of players in the Manchester United Academy and he was one of the high flyers in that group.
“He can play up front in a number roles and he is very talented. He is a super professional and is an ideal addition to our squad.”
Posh chairman, Darragh MacAnthony, was also happy that the deal had been concluded – and tweeted that Leeds’ new hierarchy had been a pleasure to deal with.
For Leeds fans asking; The people at top of Leeds we dealt with were great to do business with. Smooth, efficient & quick once fee agreed!— Darragh MacAnthony (@DMAC102) August 5, 2014
The fan-friendly Irishman also responded to Leeds’ fans’ tweets, by saying he felt that things didn’t click for Ajose at London Road, but he had a chance of being a success at Elland Road as he was still only young.
Ajose becomes Leeds seventh signing of what is shaping up to be a busy summer for the club - with more additions expected in the next few days.
