Louis van Gaal picked up his first piece of silverware as Manchester United manager, but a club legend missed the celebrations: Phil Neville.
The first-team coach did not travel with the Red Devils squad for their pre-season tour of the USA. That did not seem to affect the team, though, as the Manchester outfit defeated their arch-rivals Liverpool 3-1 in the final of the 2014 International Champions Cup at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
The match was played on Monday evening local time but in the early hours of Tuesday UK time, and 37-year-old Neville failed to stay awake for the entire 90 minutes.
The former Everton star admitted that he fell asleep when United were 1-0 down to the Reds.

Neville will probably watch the highlights of the match, but the former versatile player, who could play both in defence and in midfield, missed watching live a stunning comeback from the three-time European champions.
United went into the half-time interval 1-0 down, but scored thrice in the second half to win the final 3-1. Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard were on target for the Red Devils, who will now head back to England on a high.
