A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United…
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal could axe up to six of his current first-team squad before the transfer window closes according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper has plucked a number of players’ names out of the hypothetical hat and stuck them in a headline, with Marouane Fellaini, Anderson, Nani, Shinji Kagawa, Javier Hernandez and Wilfried Zaha all said to be close to a possible exit.
The reason to be sceptical is the fact that van Gaal has gone on record to praise Fellaini on more than one occasion already this summer, while Kagawa has shown on tour that he is an excellent option to have in the club’s 3-5-2 formation, either as an alternative or a necessary replacement for Juan Mata.
Anderson may well have played his last game for United, while rumours persist about Javier Hernandez, Nani and Zaha. But surely van Gaal will look to bring in new players before he sanctions the departure of any current ones.
Speaking of which, the Guardian reports that Atletico Madrid want to sign Kagawa and Hernandez in a £25million double deal.
In truth that would be an absolute bargain for the Spanish side considering the ability of both players. And while the Mexican may well have scored his last goal for United, van Gaal is unlikely to sell two such quality stars on the relative cheap.
