Manchester City latest: Midfielder moves, Hart’s challenge and 1,000 club awaits for Lampard

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell has completed a £10million move to Sunderland.

The former Everton star has been a bit-part player during his time at the Etihad Stadium. But he will now have the chance to fulfil his potential at the Black Cats.

It is a smart piece of business for Gus Poyet’s side, bringing in a player who has much to prove following his disappointing spell in Manchester.

In other news, former City player Joe Corrigan believes Joe Hart must stay at the top of his game following the summer arrival of fellow goalkeeper Willy Caballero.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Corrigan said, “It is up to Joe if he keeps his place.

“I think Caballero will push him on. I was fortunate when I was playing to have that competition.

“You knew that if someone else got a run in the team then it would be really hard to get your place back.”

Hart will not want another spell on the bench after being rested in place of Costel Pantilimon in Manuel Pellegrini’s first season in charge.

And finally, ESPN reports that Frank Lampard could make his 1,000 club appearance playing for City.

The former Chelsea star currently has 973 club appearances and will spend time on loan at the Etihad prior to his move to New York City FC next year.
