Tottenham latest, blow in Musacchio deal, goalkeeper leaves on loan

A selection of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Tuesday evening.

Tottenham's attempts to sign Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio appear to have had a setback according to the London Evening Standard, with the La Liga side reportedly hiking up their asking price for the defender.

Spurs were said to be confident of landing the 23-year-old for around £17 million but Villarreal appear to be after a fee of closer to £40 million.

It is said that pressure from Musacchio's previous club River Plate may be a reason for the high asking price, as they are in line for 35% of the transfer fee because of a clause in the defender's contract.

Tottenham have confirmed that young goalkeeper Jordan Archer has joined Northampton Town on loan until January.

Archer has yet to play a first team game for Spurs, and has left the club for first team experience.

He told the Northampton Chronicle: “I’d been doing my pre-season at Spurs and looking to get some games to boost my experience.

“The gaffer (Mauricio Pochettino) said there was a chance to get some games here at Northampton and I’m glad to be here.”

One of Tottenham's summer recruits in Eric Dier has been talking to the club's official website has been talking about his move from Sporting Lisbon, and said he had dreamt of a return to the Premier League.

Dier said: "This season I just want to adapt quickly to the Premier League and just do the best I can, try my hardest and have a good first season here.

"I’m really happy to be here and I want to try to impress the manager, keep the fans happy and try to do my stuff on the pitch, try to do as well as possible."

Meanwhile, Steffen Freund has been announced as the club's international technical coordinator, according to a statement on the Tottenham website.
